Netbooks  Netbooks are exploding in popularity right now because of their portability and low cost. Here are some facts on Netbooks to help you decide if they are the right choice for you. Here's what you get with a netbook (typically): • One or two USB ports • Compact keyboard and trackpad • Ultra-mobile computing • Awesome battery life What you don't get with a netbook: • Full resolution -- netbooks typically run at 1024x600, or half that of a normal laptop meaning lots more scrolling and some programs don't display properly • CD/DVD burning and ripping -- netbooks eliminate optical media drives to save on weight and power consumption • The ability to do more -- limited processor and RAM speeds allow only one or two programs to run well at a time, which is fine for sending out a quick e-mail or finishing up a Microsoft Word document on the bus, but little else. But why get a netbook instead of a Blackberry, iPhone, or other smart phone? Because, while a netbook is limited when compared with a traditional laptop computer it's nowhere near as limited as the aforementioned gadgets. While smartphones such as the BlackBerry and iPhone can do many of the basics of netbooks, the small laptop's keyboard and screen make word processing, e-mail and Web browsing much easier. Buy a netbook if you: • Want access to e-mail and the Internet on the go. • Like to travel light and go to a lot of places with free WiFi. • Want to upgrade to a new PC on the cheap and Internet, Facebook, Twitter, and e-mail are your main uses. Don't buy a netbook if you: • Plan on watching a lot of DVDs or ripping music from CDs to your computer. • Want to play hardware intensive computer games such as "Crysis" or do a lot of photo and video editing. • Need lots of stuff plugged in all at once (USB devices such as mice, printers, flash drives, iPod).
